Comprehensive Test Questions

Digital Photography, part one

You must collect at least 10 pieces of your art to photograph. Make sure to include at least two pieces of three-dimensional art (sculpture, ceramics, etc.) that you can photograph from a variety of angles. If you do not have any three-dimensional art, borrow some from a friend.

You may bring your own camera to class, or use the university's camera. Lights and a tripod will be provided.

We will cover all of the basics in class, but if you want a really in-depth guide, start here.

What you need to do:

Come to class and take notes. We will meet in either the black box theatre, or in the art annex for this class session. Make sure you know which, and bring your work.

Take pictures of your work. You will photograph six pieces of flat work and two pieces of round work. You will need to take two different angles, or views, of the round work, so you will end up with ten photographs.

Here are the photos you need:

Photo one: photograph your first 2D object (print, drawing, painting, etc.)

Photo two: photograph your second 2D object

Photo three: photograph your third 2D object

Photo four: photograph your fourth 2D object

Photo five: photograph your first 3D object (sculpture, ceramics, maquette, etc.) from one angle.

Photo six: photograph your first 3D object from a second angle.

Photo seven: photograph your first 3D object from a third angle.

Photo eight: photograph your second 3D object from one angle.

Photo nine: photograph your second 3D object from a second angle.

Photo ten: photograph your second 3D object from a third angle.

You will have six objects, but ten photographs. Of course, you will probably take more than ten, and choose the best ten that fit the assignment.

There will not be time for everyone to photograph their work during our class period, so you will have to make arrangements to come in outside of class to do your photography. Allow two hours for this assignment, although sometimes it takes longer.

What you need to turn in:

Your ten photographs, dropped in my drop box. Label the folder "photos_astudent".

What I will be grading:

You will get credit for bringing your work to class and taking the pictures. The quality of the pictures will be graded following the next assignment.
